I'm a reader. I LOVE to read. In fact, my husband says he can tell when I don't have a good book to read. Apparently, I'm not a happy person. I have so many "must read" books on my nightstand that there's not much room left for my lamp or alarm clock.
This year included some really good books and the best book I read landed #1 on my 50th Year Bucket List.
For Mother's Day, my family surprised me with brunch and tickets to the Margaret Mitchell House. As a native Atlantan, there are so many historic southern places I pass every day as I drive around this gorgeous city. And so many I have never visited. The Margaret Mitchell House is one of those places and I'm so excited that my family thought to take me there. Not only was the tour fun, it inspired me to finally read "Gone With The Wind". A book I've owned for decades, but never cracked the cover.
"Gone With The Wind" did not disappoint! I've watched the movie multiple times and was so surprised at how true the dialogue was to the actual book. Something that doesn't happen often in Hollywood these days.
I thought I'd share a few of the top books I read this year and hope to inspire you to try a few you always wanted to read, but never did.
#1 "Gone With The Wind" - Because it was phenomenal!
#2 "Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake" - I love Anna Quindlen's writing style and humor and this particular book hit home in so many ways this year.
#3 "Possibilities" - This book is beautifully written by Turner Simkins and shares one family's story about the power of love and miracles. The Simkins Family, along with the Chance Family, founded the Press On Fund which is near and dear to my heart.
#4 "Beach Music" - Because Pat Conroy is a southern literary icon and I hadn't read this novel yet. It didn't disappoint.
#5 "Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania" - Frank Bruni is a New York Times columnist and best selling author. I have an 11th grade daugther. Enough said. Brilliant!
