Planning for your Session
CONSULTATION
The consultation provides an opportunity for us to discuss your vision for the images you would like me to capture. The consultation can be done by phone or e-mail.
THE SESSION
Natural light creates the spirit of my photography. Morning and late afternoon sessions are ideal in terms of lighting, but it’s important to select a time of the day when your family is at their best. Sessions last about an hour so plan accordingly.
I start our session by spending time getting to know you and your family and checking the location and lighting for the best shots. During this time I may take a few photographs to get the session going. Once everyone is comfortable, I will begin taking pictures in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. If we are doing group photos, we’ll take these first.
It takes patience to photograph children and gain their trust. Their experience should be unhurried and may include your children giving me a tour of their surroundings to show off favorite toys and special places in their home.
Keep the mood before and during the session light and fun. Don’t stress about your child’s (and teens!) behavior, clothing, or other life moments. Perfect hair and clothes are not needed to get the perfect photo!
Please allow up to two hours for your portrait session and do not plan any activity immediately following our time together. This will allow you and your family to relax and enjoy this experience without feeling rushed.
WHAT TO WEAR
Your clothing should reflect your personality and the type of portrait you desire, casual or formal.
If you are more colorful and funky, let that shine through in your wardrobe. Bright colors can look stunning against a variety of backgrounds, especially green grass or white sand. Interesting texture can also make a strong impact in your final images.
If your style is more classic and traditional, then solid colors and lighter hues may be a better choice. Avoid clothing with oversized insignias or logos and busy prints, which can be distracting in photos.
Children should wear what represents them. Feel free to add a special costume, tutu, hat, toy or anything else fun that communicates your child's spirit.
In a family group, proper clothing coordination is essential. Clothing that blends harmoniously creates timeless images.
And don’t forget the feet! Feet will show up in portraits so shoes should coordinate with your outfit and be in a condition you don’t mind seeing in your final image.
The key is to keep outfits simple. Remember, the final image is about you, not your attire.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Hair and make-up should be natural and enhance your appearance. If getting a haircut, for women, please have this done at least one week before the photo shoot. This is not a time for experimenting and trying a new look.
PROOFS & ORDERING
Proofs will be available to view in an online gallery approximately one week after your session. We'll schedule an appointment to meet in person for your order session.
Your order session is the time you'll make your final image selections and place your order. We'll meet at your home and I'll assist you with decisions about print size, finishes, and other products to fit your needs.
Most family clients spend an average of $1,250-$1,800 on Prints, Heirloom Albums, and other products.
Once your order is placed and payment is received, your order will be processed.
