I'm pretty lucky to make it to 50 healthy and happy. The celebration, as most do, included cake. In my case, there were two. Both should have been tossed after we all had a piece, but I always feel so guilty about throwing it away. And I always want just one more piece before the birthday memories disappear.
My neighbor brought an amazing Alon's cake to a neighborhood Halloween party. Two of us in the neighborhood had birthdays last weekend and it was a nice treat. Added to all the Halloween candy I should have stopped right there. But, if you've never had an Alon's Rasberry Chocolate Mousse Cake then you've truly missed out on a decadent dessert. Here's the description on their website for the cake: light chocolate mousse made with Venezuelan chocolate, layered between two rich chocolate cake layers and a layer of raspberry on the bottom. Exactly.
Then my mom showed up the next day, my actual birthday, with a cake from Publix. While these cakes are not as gourmet as those at Alon's, there is no subsituting the fattening luxury of a yellow cake with buttercream frosting from the Publix bakery.
As I do every year, I save some for that "just in case" moment where I might want just one more piece.
So, I indulged. Now I feel a little sick. But it was worth every bite.
Now off to Pink Barre to start working it all off...
