It was an incredible day in the Village! The weather, the entertainment, the food, the community, the police officers, the costumes, and the dogs all made for a day of fun.
Yesterday we celebrated the 4th annual Open Streets event in Emory Village and the first time it was held in October. Although it was a little warmer than normal for this time of year, there were a lot of Fall and Halloween activities to enjoy.
Open Streets kicked off with a Halloween Parade and continued with non-stop entertainment and activities including The Imperial OPA Circus, Sehwe Village Percussion, Small Group No. 9 - an Emory a cappella group, the Nonessentials, Glenn Memorial UMC Youth Choir, and Rockitt 88. Attendees were also able to make a puppet compliments of the Center for Puppetry Arts, climb a wall, get their face painted, sample food and brews from Village businesses, and shop at the local artist market. The day also featured a dog contest including costumes, tricks, and a few treats.
Open Streets Emory Village is a pedestrian-friendly event presented in collaboration with DeKalb County by the all-volunteer Emory Village Alliance— a partnership of businesses, neighbors and Emory University, whose mission is to continue to improve the vitality and accessibility of Emory Village as a work, play and dine destination.
As a sponsor of this wonderful community event, I'm proud of all those who worked so hard to bring this annual event to our neighborhood.
