Well, here it is. My 50th year on earth. This is the year I turn 50. I think about it quite a bit and it's hitting me stronger that I thought it might. So, I put a great deal of thought into what I might like to do for my 50th and decided to create a bucket list. I've never put down on paper the things I would like to do in my lifetime, although I've thought of many ideas.
As I started to create my bucket list I reached out on Facebook to get ideas from family and friends. I definitely have restrictions - with a healthy fear of heights there will be no bungee jumping or jumping out of a plane. I like to enjoy my food so no need to try something utterly disgusting just to say I tried it (by the way, my impulse purchase of dry roasted edamame will go down as one of the worst foods I've ever eaten with okra being the only other food that will top that list for me).
My bucket list is quite short. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong so I went online and googled ideas. And what a bunch of crazy stuff is out there. Learn how to dismember a chicken? Really? Someone doesn't want to leave this earth until they learn how to do this?
What I've learned in this process is how many things I've actually achieved, accomplished and tried in my lifetime! As a girl I dreamed of getting married at Sacred Heart Church (now the Basilica of The Sacred Heart of Jesus) in Atlanta - my great-grandmother was a charter member and both my mom and grandmother were married there. In 1995, Todd and I married at Sacred Heart. Check.
Ireland. Check. Visit the Anne Frank House. Check. Become a professional photographer. Double Check!!
So, what I've decided to do is create an "Bucketed List". To look back and list all the amazing things in life I've already experienced. I'll certainly keep my Bucket List going, but what a wonderful realization that life has been pretty full for me so far. Many bumps along the way, certainly, but so many wonderful memories!
This year will be about enjoying life to its fullest!
Will you join me on this fun adventure?
